Privacy and Internet Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Privacy and Internet Policy - Essay Example This paper addresses how identity theft can be dealt with both on the internet and prohibiting of unauthorized access from outsiders. Protection from identity theft (especially from Internet activities and unauthorized access) Identity deft on the internet occurs in situations where individuals who are not authorized get access to a person’s online account, gets access and carry out activities that are lawful or unlawful. Majority of people who join the internet faces the challenge of identity theft so one has to take all the necessary measure of ensuring that their information is protected (Krishnamurthy and Wills 2009). However, a lot of people do not know how protect their personal information and they end suffering the consequences of not protecting their personal information. Protection of identity theft over the internet In instances where the composer of the email is not known to you, do not bother to have a look at such an email that seem doubtful to you. It is advisab le to only check authentic emails which come from banks, financial firms or your creditors. You should never base on fake emails to update your security information. Doing so, would compromise your security. Currently, there are so many people who are out to con other or sent virus and therefore the best way of avoiding them is to delete the messages they send. Effective firewall is required in order to protect your personal computer from attackers. This ensures that the threats on your personal computers from spywares, hackers and Trojans are minimized. It is further stated by Krishnamurthy and Wills (2009) that the use a Verification Engine assists you in identifying safe websites that you browse at any given time. The information that concern your personal recognition and account numbers should never be stored on a hard disk that can be accessed on the internet. This is because a hard disk that is connected to the internet has a great risk of being reached by interested thieves. It is strongly recommended not to save private information on hard disk even in circumstances of having very strong firewall software being installed. Also there should be credit check run on yourself or your family for at least once in every year to insure that the all records are always in their right format (Moore, 2005). Personal information or PIN numbers should never be given out when an email is received from internet service Providers (ISP) or credit companies requesting for the release of such confidential information. In many instances, identity thieves who pretend to be credit card companies or ISPs normally send emails requesting for personal information that has been updated. As Gina (2011) points out, void posting of information that is private about yourself or that which relates to your family members on the personal web site that can easily be used by a thief. They use this information to come up with fraudulent identity. This implies that one has to be conscious wh en posting personal information. Security Socket Layer (SSL) it is a technology that enables users to set up sessions with internet sites that are secure. This implies that they are exposed to minimal violation of external attackers.

Clinical Supervision for Nurses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Clinical Supervision for Nurses - Essay Example According to Johns (2003), Clinical supervision serves to enhance professional functioning of the junior members under the supervision; the supervisors monitor the quality of services given to patients. Supervision also creates an environment that promotes creativity in supervisees; this supports them so that they have the ability to face patients confidently. As Benfer  (1979) asserts, during clinical supervision, as a clinical supervisor, I will assess the work of the nurse and give her guidelines on how to best deals with patients. Bernard and Good year claim that clinical supervision is similar to training in that it involves a formal process of learning and professional support, which enables the supervisees to develop competence and knowledge in their profession. Because of clinical supervision, nurses identify room for improving their nursing practice (Bernard &  Goodyear 1998). Falender& Shafranske (2004) argue that a variety of approaches and models can be applied in cli nical supervision; in order to assist nurses faced with difficulties. McDaniel, Weber, & McKeever (1983) assert that clinical supervisors often apply various models when training nurses and other supervisees. The most common models of clinical supervision include the developmental model, key issue model, functions model, and process model. As a Clinical supervisor, I would use these models to serve the nurse facing challenges, in her profession. Based on this, the various models of supervision can be used when the training needs of the supervisees vary from one supervisee to another. In training the nurse, who has difficulties in dealing with patients, I would use the developmental model (Benfer 1979). The developmental model proposes that the trainees pass through several stages, which both the supervisors and the supervisees have to take into account. Using this model, I would train the supervisee to cope with the challenges, resulting from complexity of duties (Johns 2003). There fore, as a clinical supervisor, I would apply this model to train the nurse, who has had a promotion to grade E. A nurse who has been promoted to a higher level needs to develop the necessary skills required to perform better in the new position. Promotions come with additional responsibilities in one’s profession.

A View From A Bridge - analysis of act i scene 5 Essay Example for Free

A View From A Bridge analysis of act i scene 5 Essay I have chosen Nicolas cage because he is strong but not very strong and he has a good American accent. This scene is probably the most important scene of the play as there is so much action and it is the first real time you see any conflict between the characters. The scene starts when the characters have just finished their dinner and they start talking about Italy and what is like there, but it is a short lived conversation as Rodolpho and Eddie soon have a full fledged argument. After the argument Eddie offers Marco and Rodolpho some tickets to watch boxing and then offers to teach Rodolpho how to box but it looks more like Eddie is questioning Rodolpho about his sexuality. Even though Marco was on Eddie s side (You come home early now. ) before the boxing he catches on to Eddies scheme of making Rodolpho look weak and shows his supremacy over Eddie in strength by lifting a chair with one hand when Eddie could not, this is to stop Eddie making Rodolpho look like a fool. The five characters in this scene are: Eddie, Marco, Rodolpho, Beatrice and Catherine. Eddie has the most active part in the scene with fighting arguing and just talking about Italy. He starts off the scene by talking to Marco about Marcos jobs (They pay all right on them boats? ) and other things in Italy such as oranges and lemons (I heard they paint oranges to make them look orange). He then starts arguing with Rodolpho about Catherine and how late she has been staying out recently (she was never out on the street till twelve oclock at night). He then tries to make Rodolpho look bad by teaching him how to box and stunning Rodolpho briefly (he feints with his left and lands with his right. It mildly staggers Rodolpho. ). The scenes end and as Marco lifts the chair Eddie starts to look worried as Marco looks triumphant (Marco is face to face with Eddie, a strained tension gripping his eyes and jaw, his neck stiff, the chair raised like a weapon over Eddies head-and he transforms what might appear like a glare of warning into a smile of triumph, and Eddies grin vanishes as he absorbs the look). Marco seems to be a quiet but strong figure in a household and has quite a lot to do. Marco begins the scene talking about his wife and kids (Beatrice: Your wife is gettin the money alright, Marco? Marco: Oh, yes. She bought medicine for my boy. ), jobs and Italy in general, he is also reading a letter from his wife (He has been reading a letter. ). He then watches as Eddie and Rodolpho argue and box and then stands as Rodolpho staggers (Marco rises. ). Originally Marco tries to calm it down subtly, (No, Beatrice if he does wrong you must tell him. What does he do wrong? ) but by the end of the scene he obviously thinks that he needs to show to Eddie who is boss. Rodolpho begins the scene by trying and failing to enter the conversation about Italy (Once we went to Yugoslavia.), but just ends up aggravating Eddie and getting himself into a large argument with Eddie (Rodolpho: Its more strict in our town. Its not so free. Eddie: It aint so free here either, Rodolpho, like you think. ). He then gets taught to fight by Eddie and gets his own back by dancing with Catherine (Dance Catherine come), while earlier he knew there was tension and did not want to dance incase he would aggravate Eddie (Catherine: you wanna dance, Rodolpho? Rodolpho: No I-Im tired). Beatrice: right from the beginning you can tell that Beatrice is on the side of Catherine and Rodolpho (Go ahead, dance, Rodolpho. ), but she starts off the scene by joining in the conversation about Italy and Marcos life and family. She always seems to be the peacemaker (Thats enough, Eddie; he did pretty good, though. ) although she is on the side of Rodolpho and Catherine ( She watches them dance; Eddie turns his head away. ). She then looks on as Marco lifts the chair when Eddie could not (Beatrice and Eddie watch him. ). Finally Catherine: she is probably the most important character in this scene, not so much for her lines but for the reason that she is the subject that the other characters are arguing about (I have respect for her, Eddie. I do anything wrong? ). At the beginning of the scene she tries to get Rodolpho and Eddie talking (They went to Africa once. On a fishing boat [Eddie glances at her. ] Its true Eddie. ), but it just makes Eddie talk to Marco. She then is called upon to back up Rodolpho by Beatrice but seems to be shy (Beatrice: Well, you said the movie ended late, didnt you? Catherine: Yeah. ). She end s the scene by dancing with Rodolpho (Rodolpho takes her in his arms. They dance.) and then watches the fight for supremacy (Rodolpho and Catherine have stopped dancing as Marco raises the chair over his head. ). Since the beginning of the United States of America, it has been known as a unified country and as a country of with no hereditary class barrier, yet the American world has changed since the 1800s. Until 1880 anyone who had enough money to get there could get into America. Even though the government put restrictions on the amount of immigrants allowed to enter the country, 23. 5 million new immigrants entered America from 1880 -1920, most of these immigrants where Irish, Italian or Jewish from Eastern Europe. In 1920 almost 70% of New York people were immigrants or children of immigrants. This resulted in large ghettos of ethnic communities all over New York. Even though America was meant to be the land where every one had equal rights, many people were racist. The government tried to change their people instead of accepting them: Cultural Assimilation. They were forced to learn English and change from their own ways to the customs of America. In 1950 the Displaced Persons Commission enforced a huge intelligence investigation into immigrants in America. Their purpose was to try and get rid of all illegal immigrants in American society, this leads on to the question that Arthur Miller brings up in the play about loyalty and what it means to be an American and as this play was written in the 1950s this whole story is relevant to what was happening at that time in America. Immigrants were also thought to be members of fascist or communist parties in 1940, by 1950 anti-communism was so intense that members of the government such as senator Joe McCarthy and Richard Nixon took advantage of peoples strong feelings and gained power from their exploits. McCarthy had so much power that he was able to accuse anybody and get him or her sent to prison or even executed. This resulted in a witch-hunt, because anyone could be accused on the slightest excuse what so ever. Many famous people where accused of being a communist, even the author of this play, Arthur Miller, was accused but he was one of the lucky ones by getting off scot free (probably because he married Marilyn Monroe). Other famous people included many movie directors and scriptwriters who were some of the early victims, they were given the nickname The Hollywood Ten. All this anti-communism resulted in thousands losing their jobs and losing any chance of getting another one and was one of the great injustices of the twentieth century.

Utopia :: essays research papers

What is â€Å"Utopia†? What does this word mean to you? What would be your â€Å"Utopia†? Think about this while it is being read to you or while you read it and hopefully by the time the you get to the end you to will know what it means to you; and what your utopia would be like. By definition from a dictionary â€Å"Utopia† means, an ideally perfect place, especially in its social, political, and moral aspects. Utopia is your perfect world or society. It is a world of your choice, a world that meets every single expectation you have of life. A utopia in my mind would be a world where all people great and small, all shapes and colors, and all creatures are treated as one or as equals. It would be a world without discrimination and racism. My utopia would never have to worry about pollution or chemical weapons. People could believe in whatever god they wish but they would not kill others just because they did not believe in their god. Artist and utopia; is there any connection or resemblance in either?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Is art not an artist’s utopia? Think about it. Isn’t utopia whatever world, society, or maybe space you want it to be? So for artist a sculpture garden could be their utopia because they put the pieces of art that they had made or bought in that area. The artist could have also designed that place of perfection or tranquility to their liking, so if that were true it would that artist’s â€Å"Utopia†. The, Nasher Sculpture Center, in Dallas, is a perfect utopia for the owner of the center because it houses everything that person wanted just to make the center. To make that utopia the owner had trees brought in from all over the world and the trees were put in certain places all around the 54,000 square foot property.

The Illuminati speech Essay

The Illuminati. 237 years of captivating conspiracies. Many of you may know the popular image of the all seeing eye sitting atop a pyramid, however what does it all mean? The illuminati was discovered in 1776, by Adam Weishaupt, who was a professor of Canon Law and Practical philosophy. It is thought that it was around before the Garden of Eden was invented, however that is just a conspiracy. Its definition is: people claiming to possess special enlightenment or knowledge of something. The unknown is what has me so interested in the illuminati, and opens my eyes to a bigger picture of our world today. Some of the views of the illuminati include: There is a supreme deity; however the supreme deity is not an absolute being that is defined within the halls of illuminati, instead it is a being that allows adherence to hold to personal views of who or what their God might be. The supreme deity is called the creator and architect of the universe that is neither good nor evil. The practise of forgiveness A balance that exists within each person is ‘Order Chaos’. This balance is dependent upon the personal preferences and experiences as they relate to the individuals view of their deity. It all started by the Bavarian Illuminati, a secret society opposed to superstition, abuse of state power and religious influence that was formed in 1776 and disbanded in 1785. ‘The order of the day’ they wrote in their general statues, ‘is to put an end to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice, to control them without dominating them’. The illuminati along with the freemasonry and other societies were outlawed by the Bavarian ruler, Charles Theodore, with the encouragement of the roman catholic church, in 1784, 1785, 1787 and 1790. In the several years following the group was vilifies and were responsible for the French revolution. They are often alleged to unite to control world affairs, by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations, in order to gain political power and influence and to establish a New World Order. Central to some of the most widely known and elaborate conspiracy theories, the Illuminati have been depicted as lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings and levers of power in dozens of novels, movies, television shows, comics, video games and music videos.

Flaws of The British Criminal Justice System Essay

The Criminal Justice System, a system the British government set up to deal with the treatment of law-breakers, has three main goals to achieve social order, these are, (1) enforcing criminal law, (2) maintaining law and order in the society, and (3) helping victims. This may seem to be a well thought of system, but like any other organisation, there are flaws, and one of the major flaws is discrimination, and the bias that stems from discrimination. Discrimination on the basis of class, gender, sexuality and ethnicity operates at the level of attitude, on the street, in the home, at the workplace or at social venues. In regards to the Criminal Justice System, race and gender are always accounted for in court proceedings. As†¦show more content†¦Conflict theory sees societies comprised of groups with conflicting values and interests. (Vold et al. 1998) There is seen to be a link between power and crime, the more powerful you are, the least likely to be committing a crime , so the lower classes are discriminated here as they don’t have the same power a middle-class or upper-class businessman might have therefore they are labelled to be trouble-makers, they are treated harsher by the criminal justice system than their peers, but the lower class is seen more favourably than ethnic minorities, especially ethnic groups that have less power than them. In the 1960’s, researchers found that blacks were more severely sentenced than whites. Hagan in 1974 reviewed many of the findings supporting racial discrimination and found that studies were not allowing for the possibility that black defendants may be charged with more serious crimes than whites, and may have more serious criminal records (cited in ‘Theoretical Criminology’). Lizotte in 1978 found that blacks have been shown to receive harsher sentences because they are less likely to make bail, since they are less affluent, and this reduces their ability to provide an effecti ve defence. Another model which discusses discrimination is the Learning model of crime.
